I recently saw these from the top of the Chase Building in Downtown Dallas...What's funny about it is my eyes were closed....
People watching
I am admittedly one of those weirdoes’s that loves to people watch. Malls, public transportation, downtown, a big restaurant, an airport, a school campus: all of these are great places to be around and watch people. The walks and how they carry themselves; the facial expressions – especially the eyes, and wondering what is going on inside; the clothes, shows, and fashions; the accoutrements like a garbage bag or a briefcase; the way they interact with other people and the surroundings; each of these aspects fascinates me.
God’s creativity is overwhelming and His love is so diverse.
Airport
I went to the airport this morning to pick up my boss and realized I had forgotten how much I enjoyed being at an airport. Traditionally, my relationship with airports had been rather love/hate: when they are bringing someone I love like a family member or friend, I love them; but when they are taking someone close, that love quickly vanishes and leaves the opposite in it’s place (funny how that is sometimes true of our relationship with God).
It’s isn’t so much about the love and hate anymore…I love to go and watch the people. Smiles, tears, longing looks, laughter, people reading, yelling, scolding, kissing, indifference…there is a plethora of emotions and feelings that happen every hour at an airport. And the types of people are amazing! Black, red, white, yellow, infant, ancient, normal, weird, stereotypical, fashionable, desperately unfashionable: but the coolest thing of all is remembering who made each and everyone of them, not to mention his love for them.

thoughts from phillipians
I once thought all these things were so very important, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I may have Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own goodness or my ability to obey God's law, but I trust Christ to save me. For God's way of making us right with himself depends on faith.(Phil. 3:7-9)
Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:6-7)
I read these verses this morning during my quite time and was struck with the huge amount of power and promise that is encompassed in just a few lines...There is nothing in life that these verse don't set into correct perspective and priority. This is the way I want to live my life...
Primos 3
This is an addition to two previous entries that I wrote almost a year ago on a past blog. So that this new entry makes sense, I have included the first two here:
primos girl 1
I am actually pretty excited to write this entry which is not the norm unfortunately...Regardless here it is and this is dedicated to shane, chris, and ryan.
There is a local Dallas hotspot called "Primos" off of McKinney where we will occasionally go fordinner or as the mood strikes...now primos has good food, good drinks, etc. but it is more importantly a place that is frequented by my generation who are on the way up (or at least think they are); one could classify them as the beautiful people. On a recent visit with some good guy friends, we were discussing life and liberty and especially girls =) The topic of our future wives came up and how we are preparing now to be "her" man, how stuff will change, and also what we were looking for in a future mate.
The three of us are strong Christianguys (or are trying to be) and want the same in a future mate: namely, the first priority in a future mate is her relationship with the Lord. And as we are all in the creative industry, we would like a girl with a unique since of style. This style, and even personality became known as the "Primos Girl". To be sure, the overwhelming majority of girls that we see at primos are not ones we would take home to mom. But none of us are looking for just one of the majority of girls...We want Her: the one hand picked for us by God. More soon...primos girl 2
So what we wanted to know was if the Christian Primos Girl existed...who is the Christian primos girl? well, besides the unique style and personality (see first post) she knows how to appropriately walk the fashion line between modesty and sexy. (Hey! we're guys and we are being honest) But here is the deal...the even more important part: She Must love God above all else. She must demand that of us. Everything else falls into place if He is number one in her life. All of us have made stupid decision at one point or another...but if we earnestly seek Christ, then through God's grace, our past is our PAST and it is behind us; and now we try to follow hard afterHim. W/o soundingprideful, we are good looking guys and if we wanted to be dating someone, we could...BUT we want Her. And we are willing to wait for her...does that mean that the next girl we date will be the one we marry...not necessarily but it does mean two very important things: she will have a strong possibility of being her; and we will treat the girl we are dating with the respect that our future wife would want, regardless of whether or not it is the girl we are dating. (Put another way, we will treat the girl we are dating as if our future wife were right by our side until we know who she is)And until God sees fit to give us that special lady that is ours to cherish, we want to honor him with our relationships both friend and romantic.primos girl 3First off, it should be clear that none of us guys had in mind a certain girl when we were talking about all of this...instead it was the ideal of a girl...(note that Isaid an ideal
of a girl, not an
ideal girl) Lord knows we are not perfect nor would we really want to be dating (much less married) a woman who was perfect....
Here is the modification that I wanted to make to the first couple of posts...if possible, think of modesty as an action, and sexy as a state of mind or a confidence in Christ. One of the [if not
the] sexiest things to a Christian guy, is a woman who is wholly in love with the Lord; that is what shows through whatever a woman is wearing...yes, we are living in the "age of the Image" and guys are evenmore stimulated by their eyes, so in some ways the actual clothing/style matters, but only in a way that accentuates on the outside what is already on the inside. There are certain outfits that I just shouldn't wear...doesn't mean I am not handsome, but no guy can pull off every style and every outfit (unless you are in a movie :) It is the same with the Ladies: some woman look great in certain styles and other outfits don't compliment the way that God made them. It
doesn't mean that they are any more or less beautiful than the woman who wear the opposite styles.
Now I am not completely naive...I realize that a woman walking down the street wearing a t-back and string top is going to get more looks from Joe Blow than a woman who is wearing an abaaya (a black gown)...but who would
you (as a Lady) rather get looks from...the guy who lustfully drinks in the woman wearing practically nothing, or the guy who immediatelylooks away because he knows that that is not what he wants in a future mate nor is it something his future mate would want him looking at....
This topic is continually evolving....
Money Money Money
So I spent the majority of this evening updating and working on my budget with the West Wing Season 4 playing in the background. Cleaning around the apt also consumed some of my time this evening; I have a special guest visiting next weekend...
I also did some behind the scenes stuff on my blog and updated some old entries...

I was trying to think of something interesting to say because I really wanted to post today, but could come up with nothing...so I will just psot this picture I took in LA this last weekend...
The Emmy's
I gotta say, IF Hollywood was going to be up at 5:30 in the morning, it would have to be because of some kind of award....And sure enough, this morning was no exception. The Emmy nominations were announced this morning and there were only a few suprises. I was really surprised to see the miniseries category nominations...I must not watch enough TV, but I didn't recognize a single one. Oh well...It was good to see "Everybody Loves Raymond" getting several nominations as this is their last season. There were a couple of other shows that I was glad to see get nominated (including West Wing) but it is still early so we will have to talk about it later.....
John Piper
There are many writers and preachers that I enjoy...Some encourage me, some challenge me, some convict me...But only a select few do all the above and more. John Piper is one of those men. Just for comparison sake, other men on that short list would include C.S. Lewis, Jonathan Wesley, and Dr. Mac Brunson.
My first experience with Piper was at One Day 2000 and he has constantly rocked my relationship with Christ ever since. He spoke at our mutual alma matter while I was attending, including my graduation ceremony. I know this man to be a man of truth, a man who correctly handles the word of truth, and whom God will greet into heaven with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
Bath Tub of Pleasure
There are few things that will melt away whatever is plaguing your mind like a hot bath, candle light, and a Damien Rice CD (or something along those musical lines)...I was indulging in just such an experience when it occurred to me just how much Satan has twisted that word. Pleasure. Pleasures. One of my Favorite quotes about Pleasure is by Eric Little in Chariots of Fire, "When I run, I can feel His Pleasure." It reminds me that Pleasure is from the Lord...And like many things the Lord has given us, Satan has sought to defame and twist what God intended to be a blessing in our lives. I enjoy feeling His pleasure. Nothing else on earth can compare to it...No female, No Pride, No sense of accomplishment...Nothing. There is nothing that can compare to the unadulterated flowing of the Holy Spirit as He fill us with the Pleasure of the Lord. Not that the pleasure of a hot bath is bad...it isn't...so long as (in the words of C.S. Lewis) don't settle for making mud pies when Christ wants to offer us a Holiday at the Sea.
Starbucks
This picture is for Tony...the greatest Barista known to man....this is me at the original Starbucks at Pike's Market in Seattle, WA. Do you know how you can tell it is the original shop and not some cheap knock off?

Blessed Child
An awesome novel that delves into the tricky topic of modern day miracles. Bill Bright and Ted Dekker do a superb job of weaving modern day reality and spiritual truth into a page-turning work of fiction. This was definitely one of those books that I couldn't put down. The character of Caleb exemplifies the relationship we should all long to have with the Father. Yet, Jason and Leiah embody many of the fears, doubts, and short-comings that we all have. All-in-all, this book is a must read. (9 out of 10)
Blink
A novel by Ted Dekker(who co-wrote
Blessed Child with Bill Bright), this book definitely appealed to my more intellectual side, while not going without a health dose of romantic interest...The strong theme of free will and pre-destination (though I am not sure if those terms are ever actually used) is tackled from a fresh new direction. It begins from the 'devils-advocate' pov and works toward the truth. An equally as prevalent theme is women's rights or rather the lack of women's rights in the Islamic faith. It is an extremely well-written, smart story with a twist of the East meets West. (8 out of 10)
E. M. Bounds on Prayer
As I read, thus will I post:)
don't waste your life
As I read, thus will I post :)
Blessings...
There is something that really pisses Satan off when God blesses us....almost as much as it pisses him off when we cherish those blessings. I have recently been giving a blessing I am far from deserving and pray for the guidance, discernment, leadership, and humility to cherish her as a daughter of His.
Another thing that really irritates him is when we are persistent in following the calling that God has places on our life. In Romans, Paul teaches us that it is direction, not perfection, that The Spirit longs for. We will never be perfect on earth, but if our lives show us perusing Him as much as we can and we are constantly moving for a deeper relationship with Him, then He will receive the glory.

Changes
While the setting up and customizing phase of a new blog or web page is always my favorite, I am running into some trouble trying to figure out how to bring my last couple of years worth of entries over from my movable type blog. (aside from simple copying and pasting, as well as changing all the dates to match) But that may be what it comes down to...
Work is ok so far today though I can't wait for the weekend to get because I have so much I want to do around my apt. I need to do laundry from this last weekend and get some stuff straightened up. I am working on a new photo project and still trying to get all the css programing right for this site. I would really like to figure out a good gallery program for Blogger, so if anyone has any ideas please pass them along.

This is an old road grader that is sitting behind our barn at the ranch. We still use it to keep the roads on the ranch clear during the winter. To say that it is a blast to drive would be an understatment!

There is something about photographing people who don't like to be photograph that offers both a challenge and an oppertunity. The challenge is actually to create the oppertunity; the oppertunity to reveal to the person something beautiful about themselves that they doubted was there.

Easter Idea
A cross is made out of wood that everyone writes their confessions on...
At different times throughout the evening, the group and cross is moved to a different location where a verse is read. Finally the cross is painted red to signify the death of Christ.

but realities (for he has hold not of an image but of a reality), and bringing forth and nourishing true virtue to become the friend of God and be immortal, if mortal man may." ~ Plato
The Book of Hours
T. Davis Bunn is by far one of my favorite Christian Authors. The Book of Hours takes a bit of a turn from his usual style of writing which is action and history adventure. While BoH has it’s own sprinkle of action, the story is more of a romantic mystery. And of course the fact that it is set in England did more than a little to attract me to this book. I highly recommend it…
